ALLOCATING OUR HOMES
| Customer Choice |
Sustainable Tenancies |
|
We aim to give our customers real choice as to the type and location of their future home, whilst balancing this with our commitment to re-housing those people in priority need. To help people exercise choice, we are active partners in the Council’s Homehunter Scheme. This means that some of our properties will continue to be advertised regularly through this “choice-based” lettings scheme. You can obtain more details about how the scheme works, and how you can take part in it, from our offices. |
Overall, we aim to keep our properties empty for as short a period as possible. This will be done by providing a responsive, informative and fair lettings service in dealing with applicants for housing. We are keen to promote sustainable tenancies, community cohesion and pro-social behaviour on all our schemes. |
Standards
| We will: |
-
Ensure our waiting lists are regularly reviewed and applicants notified of any changes that may affect them.
-
Assess and prioritise an applicant within 21 working days of receiving a properly completed application form.
-
Provide translation services for any applicant with difficulty completing such forms.
-
Interview applicants to verify the details of their application prior to offering them any tenancy.
-
Accept those applicants onto our waiting list who we can make at least one offer of accommodation to within 24 months.
-
Give you the right to exchange your property with other tenants of the Association and other social landlords.
-
Not refuse your request for a mutual exchange for reasons other than those laid out in our policy. |
Waiting List Closure Please note that we may close our waiting list at any time to ensure that we do not give people false hopes of re-housing them. This can happen when we judge that the demand for our homes is far greater than the vacancies that we have. We may choose to register people on our waiting list with Homehunter, with their consent, if we judge that they will be better helped through this process.
