Applying for a Home with Us

MHA is launching a new Choice based letting system (CBL) on the 3rd May 2011.

The new system is close to estate agents' open market advertising of properties, except that applicants have to express their interest within a given deadline.

Features of MHA's CBL

Manningham's new CBL system will be called MHA Home Options.  The system will allow applicants to register on the web site and based on the information provided by the applicant assess where the applicant has priority or non priority.  This assessment will be done independantly of staff.

  • The system allows only eligible individuals to apply.  These are:
  • Local Authority nomination:
  • Anyone over 16 years who has residency rights in the UK, including those assessed as Statutory Homeless and in priority need by the Local Authority; 16 to 18 years old will require a guardian or an adult that can guarantee their rent payments and compliance with other tenancy conditions.
  • Existing tenants of MHA and any other Housing Associatiion who wish to transfer.

Advantages of MHA's CBL

  • No weekly adverts, but there will be a daily assessment of bids and contact successful applicants
  • Applicants can apply to join MHA's CBL any day, anytime, and in locations of their convenience without staff input or assistance.
  • They can update their application with any new inforamtion any day, anytime and in locations of their convenience without staff input or assistance.
  • The information will be processed by the system and priority status awarded, including number in the queue.
  • Staff will be checking bids everyday and letting available properties to successful bidders.
  • The system continues with MHA 's community cohesion approach to letting by enabling applicants to bid via 3 routes: homeless, employment and community routes.
  • The system uses 2 bands for deciding the status of applicants - "priority" and "non priority" bands, and a percentage of allocations are made to each band as stated in the Lettings Policy.
  • Evidence to support an application will be required at the short listing stage only from the top 3 applicants.   Therefore paper documentaion will be kept to a minimum.
  • All information is web-based and directly stores electronically on MHA's IT system.  Therefore, problems with physical storage files is minimumed.
  • Staff can not be accused of favouritism or any ills as they do not have access to update applicants' information.

Before the launch date we will write to all our registered applicants and allow them the month of April to register.
