STAGES IN FORMING A LOCAL TENANTS ASSOCIATION

 Step 1  Step 3

Arrange a meeting with all residents to discuss key issues affecting the residents. This may be an ASB issue which is affecting all residents on the scheme e.g. children’s nuisance. Raise the idea of a tenants association and the advantages of setting one up.

Have a meeting with tenants to develop the constitution. Go through each clause of a standard tenant’s association constitution and develop a constitution tailor made to that particular group.

Step 2 Step 4

Arrange second meeting to discuss the practicalities of setting up an association introducing the concept of the constitution and the structure of the group e.g. committees. Identify roles and responsibilities of officers. Develop initial ideas about issues which the association may tackle.

Hold a meeting to ratify and adopt the constitution and elect officers.
