RENT & SERVICE CHARGE INFORMATION

Pay Your Rent on Time
It is very important that you pay your rent on time. Your rent is due in advance and should be paid on the Monday of each week (unless your tenancy agreement states otherwise). If you are having problems paying your rent you should let your Housing Officer know as soon as possible. If you wish to pay your rent now, please click here.

What Your Service Charge Pays For
A service charge is included in your total rent. It covers the cost of services provided by us. These services may include the following:

  • Maintenance of communal open spaces, including play equipment.
  • Provision and maintenance of lifts, communal TV aerials, door entry systems and emergency alarm services.
  • Cleaning, heating and lighting communal areas.
  • Communal lounges, laundries and guest rooms in sheltered housing schemes, for instance.
  • Security patrols, for instance, as part of the Association's community safety initiative.
  • Warden services.
  • Culturally-sensitive services, for instance, interpreting services and mediation.

Other Services
The services provided vary from estate to estate and from one group of properties to another on the same estate. If you live in a block of flats, you may receive more services than somebody living in a house.

Where appropriate your service charge may be split into support and non-support costs. This applies to tenants in sheltered schemes, those with the use of a community alarm, or those living in supported housing schemes. You will know if you are one of these people, as your tenancy will show. For tenants claiming Housing Benefit, this is necessary as the funding for the support costs, such as wardens’ costs, now come from a different source than Housing Benefit.

You may also pay a weekly charge for a shed, store, parking space or garage if you rent these separately from your home.

Water rates are payable direct by you to your water company unless we have agreed to collect these charges with the rent.
