SHELTERED HOUSING

Manningham Housing Association has a sheltered housing scheme for elderly people aged 55 and over. The scheme is close to local amenities and provides easy access to the city centre.

When many people grow older they still want to have their independence. Anchor Court has been designed with this in mind. Independent living is a key element of this sheltered scheme. Unlike a nursing home, each tenant has their own key and tenants are therefore able to come and go as they please. If residents also want a member of their family to live with them at the scheme i.e. a son or a daughter, then this can also be arranged.

The scheme contains nine double flats suitable for couples and fourteen single flats. Each flat contains its own bedroom, living room, kitchen and bathroom, shower, television aerial and a pull cord system for emergencies. We understand the importance of having guests around not just for a short period but also to stay overnight. Therefore, should tenants wish to have overnight guests, guestrooms are available for them to stay in. Each guestroom has an adjoining toilet and shower room. Tenants at the scheme benefit from lots of facilities including a hair dressing room with a visiting hairdresser; a laundry room and a mobile library, which visits every fortnight offering a wide range of books.

A large comfortable communal lounge on the ground floor allows for socialising so there is never a feeling of loneliness. Many different birds visit the external landscape and private gardens.

There is a very scenic and peaceful view. There are lots of social activities for tenants including coffee mornings, bingo, luncheon club (providing halal meat), keep fit and dominoes. There are also parties, outings and special meals held at the scheme.

Visiting traders also come to the scheme and provide stalls with their goods for residents to browse through and buy.

Rents include service charges for water rates, heating and hot water. Some tenants may even qualify for a concessionary TV licence of £5.00. If tenants are in receipt of benefits, then they will also qualify for housing benefit from the Council.
